ipet Insurance Co., Ltd. – Achieves Cost-Effective Redundancy with PacketFabric
ipet Insurance Co., Ltd. was established in 2004 and specializes in pet insurance. Centered around its main product, "Uchinoko", the company offers coverage not only for dogs and cats but also for exotic animals, meeting the diverse needs of pet owners. In 2025, it achieved its long-anticipated milestone of 1 million insurance contracts. It also collaborates with over 6000 veterinary hospitals nationwide.
ipet Insurance’s key strength is the smooth application process it provides through pet shops and its website.
We spoke with Mr. Tamayama of the IT Systems Department about his experience and impressions of implementing PacketFabric’s network service for their Contract System’s network infrastructure.

- Background and reasons for implementation
- Previously, our system’s Internet connection was configured as a single line. When there were outages with our Internet provider, our web services were disrupted.
- Although the staff at pet shops managed the issue by temporarily switching to paper-based processing for payments, these outages caused significant impact to our business. This led us to sharply realize that things could not be left as they were, and underscored the need for network redundancy.
- However, when it came to implementing a robust redundant configuration, we faced hurdles such as expensive setup and network costs, the need to contract with multiple vendors and the time required to design failover methods. As a result, adopting network redundancy posed considerable difficulty for us.
- Why we selected PacketFabric
- While searching for solutions to build redundancy into our Internet connection, we came across a case study of a major financial company on PacketFabric’s website. Since the company was in the same industry as us, the case study gave us the impression that PacketFabric was worth looking into. To better understand the provider we would be entrusting with our critical infrastructure, I visited PacketFabric’s booth at the Interop Tokyo exhibition.
- I learned about PacketFabric’s MIRO (Managed Internet Route Optimizer) and Redundant Internet Solution. Although I could not fully understand all the technical aspects, my impression was simply, “This company is doing something truly impressive.” Subsequent discussions went smooth; we received a proposal and moved forward to assess PacketFabric’s solution.
- The deciding factors in implementing the service were its cost-efficiency and its high reliability. The cost was a major deciding factor, as it was at roughly half the cost compared to other services we evaluated.
- In particular, few providers could offer a redundant configuration package on their own, and PacketFabric excelled in both technical reliability and reasonable pricing.
- Furthermore, our decision was supported by the presence of our in-house network engineers with strong expertise. This enabled us to confidently handle the technical requirements, such as a BGP configuration for maintaining the same IP addresses during the switchover.
- The stability and peace of mind gained post installation
- First and foremost, we have not experienced any outages since PacketFabric’s service was installed. Even if outages were to occur, we would be able to continue our business with confidence, due to having a redundant Internet solution.
- There are occasional maintenance notifications, but they have no impact on operations and we have not experienced any service interruptions。Our Internet speed is stable and we have not received any negative feedback from our customers.
- During the installation process, the technical expertise and prompt responsiveness of PacketFabric engineers gave me confidence that we had made the right decision to go with them.
- The future for our network and systems
- We are rolling out PacketFabric circuits at our main locations, and we are also planning to strengthen our network infrastructure for other branches. We would like to unify all our Internet circuits with PacketFabric, in the hopes of centralizing the management of our Internet circuits. Furthermore, we are aiming to turn our entire network into an SD-WAN.
